Cette romance de forme ABA expose un thème expressif mettant en relief la sonorité chaleureuse de l’alto. La partie centrale fait appel au registre aigu de l’instrument. Le piano réexpose la mélodie initiale, l’alto lui répondant sous forme de canon. La pièce se conclut sur une pédale harmonique.  

This romance in an ABA form exposes an expressive theme which highlights the warm sound of the viola. The central part uses the high register of the instrument. The piano re-exposes the initial melody, the viola responding to it in the form of a canon. The piece ends on a harmonic pedal.
